Six soils with the greatest potential for agricultural and pastoral development from the Adelaide and Daly Basins were studied to assess their plant nutrient status. These soils had widely different morphologies, ranging from loamy to sandy red massive earths from the Daly Basin to a yellow massive earth, a soloth and a lithosol from the Adelaide Basin. The latter three soils were selected in close proximity to each other on Mt Bundey Station near Adelaide River township. Each of the soils was assessed by chemical analysis and pot experiments, using Verano caribbean stylo (5. hamata) as the test plant.
